Description / Expertise

Unique Daum art deco vase. Only one known to exist. Impressive piece from the transition period, around 1909-1912. After the art nouveau period Daum started to experiment with new colors and techniques. This vase has gold leaf inclusions , as well plaquettes in different colors melted on the surface, one of the first abstract vases. No flowers, nor a design on this vase, just playing with movement and modern taste. Very daring for this period and because of the inclusions very difficult to make.
It has been in the exhibition of the Ecole de Nancy in 1999 in Nancy. It is also in the book about this exhibition on page 281. One similar vase was in the exhibition in 1979-1980 in Nancy.
